Ever since the departure of superstar speedster Tyreek Hill, the Kansas City Chiefs have not pushed the ball downfield the past two seasons. But after adding veteran wide receiver Marquise Brown and selecting the speedy Xavier Worthy in the NFL Draft, it sounds like the team now wants quarterback Patrick Mahomes to push the ball downfield more often.
During a recent interview, Patrick Mahomes revealed that Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid wants a big change from him this season as he tries to get him to push the ball downfield much more often this coming season.
“If I don’t, he throws little jabs at me like, ‘Oh, you want to throw the checkdown here?”’ Mahomes said according to Adam Teicher of ESPN. “I’m like, ‘I got you, Coach; we’re going to push it.’ It has been fun.”
Obviously, the Chiefs have been good enough on the offensive side of the ball as the team has managed to win back-to-back Super Bowl titles. But it sounds like the team is looking to have a much more electric and high-powered offense this upcoming season as they go for an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl championship.
We’ll have to see what the offense looks like.
