The Washington Commanders won’t say who their starting quarterback will be yet. That decision left many confused on Thursday afternoon.
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn spoke to the media on Thursday as the team wrapped up its mandatory minicamp. Quinn refused to name a starting QB during the media session, leaving reporters and Commander fans guessing who will lead the charge in September.
Andrew Siciliano posted on X that Quinn would make ‘no great declarations’ on the decision to name a QB yet between Marcus Mariota and No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels.

It’s true that not tipping your hand can get you in a good spot. That being said, with the choicse in mind, one choice would clearly exude a lot more optimism than the other. Most Commander fans probably want to see Daniels be named the starter. The 2023 Heisman Trophy winner is an exciting player and a potential franchise quarterback. But Quinn and the team haven’t budged on it yet.
The decision not to name a starter yet has some Commander fans miffed. For the most part, nobody really understood why they opted not to play their hand.
