During their time together with the New England Patriots, Tom Brady and head coach Bill Belichick teamed up to win six Super Bowl championships, leading some to debate whether Brady or Belichick was most responsible for that success. And during his jersey retirement ceremony on Wednesday, Brady addressed that debate.
During his speech on Wednesday evening, Tom Brady had a pretty clear message for Bill Belichick as he said that both he and Belichick together were responsible for the success the Patriots enjoyed for over two decades.
“To Coach Belichick, thank you for your tireless commitment to develop and push me to be my very best. It wasn’t me, it wasn’t you, it was us,” Brady said according to Pro Football Talk. “Our hard work, our love of the game, and the way we worked for one another, that’s what it was all about. Let me make this crystal clear: There is no coach in the world I would rather play for than Bill Belichick.”
Of course, Brady left Belichick and the Patriots before the 2020 season, ultimately signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where he won a Super Bowl title while Belichick never won another playoff game with the Patriots without him.
