Dak Prescott is heading into the final year of his contract with the Dallas Cowboys, but given that the team has not shown all that much urgency to sign him to a new contract, most have assumed that Prescott was set to play out his current deal and become a free agent at the end of the 2024 season. But it doesn’t sound like that will be the case, after all.
According to a report from NFL insider Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Dallas Cowboys actually are “all-in” on signing Dak Prescott to a new contract and have made that clear behind closed doors even if they haven’t said it publicly.
“They are all in on re-signing Dak Prescott, eventually. They just haven’t shown it yet,” Fowler said. “I’m told behind the scenes they’ve made it clear they don’t want him to hit free agency in 2025.”

“They want him to be the quarterback of the future,” Fowler continued. “But their negotiations so far have been described to me as ‘passive.’ So, sometime this summer they’re going to have to ramp up the heat a little bit, come with a strong offer, and get the ball rolling. But they made clear they’re going to do that, they’re just slow-playing it a little bit.”
Obviously, this is pretty shocking news considering that the consensus belief has been that Prescott would become a free agent next offseason, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.
The Cowboys continue to try to gaslight us into thinking "all-in" means something else https://t.co/FtQpxJetsW

Whether you believe in Dak or not, the fact the Cowboys have dragged their feet on signing him and Lamb to extensions is going to cost them millions of dollars that could go toward other areas of the roster. Parsons too soon. https://t.co/5H6c9kOlA0

Because Princess needs to show he can actually deliver in the playoffs and not just strut behind a podium during the regular season after racking up garbage time stats then fall apart on the road against playoff caliber teams. https://t.co/2qMfwSF5zI

I’ll see till I believe it. But knowing this idiotic front office they won’t get a deal done and Dak walks in free agency in 2025 https://t.co/8NmqpC6BvY

We’ll have to see whether or not the two sides can really get a deal done before the start of the season.
