This preseason, Russell Wilson will be competing with Justin Fields as both former starting quarterbacks try to earn the starting quarterback job for the Pittsburgh Steelers. But even though they will be competitors for the next couple of months, Wilson clearly respects Fields and thinks he’s a great player.
During a recent press conference, Russell Wilson had some high praise for Justin Fields as he called him “one of the most talented” players in the league.
“Justin is obviously one of the most talented guys in the NFL,” Wilson said according to Tim Benz of TribLive.com. “You know all the things he can do. The player, the quarterback that he is. He’s dynamic. It’s all about us winning. That’s the focus. I think it would strike fear in some defenses, that’s for sure.”
Wilson went as far as to call Fields a “franchise quarterback.”
“Justin is a franchise quarterback. He’s a guy that can do a lot of amazing things,” Wilson said. “So, we have two dynamic guys that can do a lot of special things.”
Obviously, there will only be one starter, but it’s pretty clear that Wilson has a lot of respect for Fields as they compete against each other to earn that role.
