The New England Patriots brought in several new quarterbacks this season, signing veteran Jacoby Brissett and drafting both Drake Maye and Joe Milton. It leaves the future quite a bit uncertain for returning quarterback Bailey Zappe, but he doesn’t actually sound all that worried about it.
During a press conference this week, Bailey Zappe downplayed any concern or stress about the team’s quarterback situation as he made it very clear that he was “having fun” and intended to compete for a spot on the roster just like everyone else.
“I’ve been having fun, y’all,” Zappe said according to CBS Boston. “They bring in guys every year obviously. They want everybody to compete and that’s what they’ve been telling us this entire time. Everyone is going to get an opportunity to compete.”
Zappe started a few games for the Patriots last season after the team decided to bench previous starter Mac Jones, but he clearly did not prove himself nearly enough during the season to convince the team that he was the answer at quarterback.
With three other quarterbacks on the roster, Zappe faces an uphill battle to even make the team’s final roster. But it doesn’t sound like he’s stressing about it.
