Like many, Nick Bosa made note of Scottie Scheffler’s recent arrest.
And the San Francisco 49ers star defensive end couldn’t help but make a joke at the two-time Masters champion’s expense.
Speaking to reporters at the 49ers’ organized team activities on Tuesday, Bosa was asked about the personality of San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy. And the 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year had nothing but positive things to say about Purdy, likening him to Scheffler — with one notable exception.
“I think he’s definitely getting a little more vocal within the building. I don’t think he’s ever going to change. I don’t think he’s somebody who’s going to change even when he gets paid next year. He’s a man of faith,” Bosa said. “He kind of reminds me of Scottie Scheffler, except for the arrest. Just super humble and a really good kid. Yeah, he’s definitely famous.”
Asked if he knows Scheffler personally, the Ohio State product said he doesn’t, but has watched him on TV. For the uninitiated, Scheffler was shockingly arrested in Louisville this past Friday for allegedly failing to follow traffic directions as he arrived for the second round of the PGA Championship.
While Scheffler was charged with second-degree assault of a police officer — a felony — third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals, the 27-year-old said he remains hopeful that the situation will be resolved quickly. As for Purdy, the comparison was obviously intended to be a compliment, as Scheffler has become known for his stellar play on the course and humble personality off of it, regardless of his criminal record.
