For the first time in his 14 seasons as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cameron Heyward is not participating in the team’s voluntary offseason workouts. And more concerning than that, it sounds like his future with the team might actually be in question.
During the latest episode of his Not Just Football podcast, Cameron Heyward confirmed that his absence is due to contract negotiations as he seeks a contract extension from the Pittsburgh Steelers. And while he has made it clear that he wants to remain a member of the Steelers throughout his career, it sounds like there is at least a possibility he could move on from the team.
“Have always attended these, but at this time it’s just contract negotiations, and I want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler, but we’ll see what happens,” Heyward said according to Pro Football Talk. “I’m training hard. It’s nothing I’m not doing on and off the field. I’m doing everything possible, and we’ll get there when we get there.”
Obviously, Heyward is a living legend for the Steelers as he has been the leader of the defense for the better part of a decade. We’ll have to see how his contract situation shakes out.
