Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese hasn’t been in the WNBA long after being selected by the team with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft last month. But she is already sticking up for her fellow WNBA players when it comes to insensitive fans on social media.
On Thursday, a video of Dallas Wings players Kalani Brown and Teaira McCowan posing for pictures on media day surfaced on social media.
Unfortunately, disgusting fans who certainly appear to be transphobic took notice of this video, making an extremely insensitive joke at the expense of Brown and McCowan.
“They’re letting trans [athletes] in the WNBA,” the “fan” wrote.
For the record, Brown and McCowan are very clearly females. And Angel Reese took the time out of her day to address the transphobic fan, sticking up for her fellow WNBA star by calling them “black tall women that are FINE”.
Y’all never seen black tall women that are FINE??? Y’all so weird & insecure and it SHOWS!!!”

Reese is absolutely correct. There are plenty of weird and insensitive people out there who are simply a sorry excuse for actual fans of the WNBA. And unfortunately, instances like this will likely only continue to happen as the WNBA as it gains more and more popularity. With more popularity also unfortunately comes more trolls on the internet…
But regardless, it is pretty awesome to see Reese standing up for her fellow WNBA stars here. Hopefully we see more instances in the future where fellow WNBA players stick up for themselves against these truly disturbing “fans” of the sport.
