If the Boston Celtics end up winning the 2024 NBA Title, it’s unlikely that many fans will care how they got it done. A championship is a championship.
That’s not true of Boston sports talk radio host Tony “Mazz” Massarotti, who questions whether or not their easy path through the playoffs so far means their potential title would be “hollow.”
“Let’s just say they go through the whole thing winning like this. Isn’t that hollow? Doesn’t that feel kinda hollow?” asked Massarotti. “Look, the championship is the championship. The parade is the parade. But doesn’t the value come in withstanding the pushback? It’s supposed to be about having to fight for it. That’s where the value of a championship comes.”
When co-host Michael Felger pushed back, asking what’s so bad about winning an “easy championship,” Mazz doubled down.
If the Celtics win a championship, should it even count because it was too easy?@FelgerAndMazz pic.twitter.com/ldUUo6XVOG

“Why don’t we just have them play in the local youth competition?” asked Mazz.
The Celtics cruised to a 4-1 series victory over a depleted Miami Heat team in the first round and crushed the Cleveland Cavaliers 120-95 in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference Semifinals series. While it might not be exciting, we’re pretty sure most NBA fanbases would kill for that kind of dominance on the road to the NBA Finals.
It’s pretty funny for Massarotti to complain about the Celtics being TOO good.
