Over the past several months, women’s basketball superstar Caitlin Clark has soared in popularity as she’s brought unprecedented attention to to women’s basketball, leading the Iowa Hawkeyes to the NCAA title game before she was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft. She’s even attracted more attention in the written media than all of the quarterbacks who were just selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
The NFL world just saw six quarterbacks selected in the first round of the NFL Draft – Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, Michael Penix Jr., J.J. McCarthy, and Bo Nix. And in the month of April, Caitlin Clark attracted more attention than all of them combined.
According to an analysis by The Sports Geek, Caitlin Clark had more articles written about her in the month of April than all six first-round quarterbacks combined. The analysis found that Clark had 13,114 articles written about her in April compared to the 12,889 articles that were written about the six quarterbacks before and after the NFL Draft.
Caleb Williams was the most-covered of the six quarterbacks with a total of 3,857 articles written about him in the month of April, but even that doesn’t even come close to the attention that Clark got in the media.
She has certainly moved the needle.
