On Thursday night, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Texas Longhorns star wide receiver Xavier Worthy, trading up to pick him with the No. 28 pick in the first round. And it sounds like he is excited to be joining the team – and catching passes from quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
During his press conference following the selection, Xavier Worthy made it clear that he wanted and expected to be selected by the Kansas City Chiefs all along.
“I’ve been calling it,” Worthy told reportes according to Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com. “I’ve been saying it since the beginning of the year. ‘I’m going to the Chiefs.’ Everybody thought the NFL was never going to let the Chiefs get to me. But I’m here. I’m excited, man, just to be able to play with Pat.
“Seeing the success that Tyreek Hill had in this offense, I feel like it will be amazing.”
Worth will give Patrick Mahomes a new weapon at wide receiver after the team has been without any real star receivers since the departure of Tyreek Hill, and it sounds like Worthy is excited to play with Mahomes, too.
“Everybody’s dream is to play with Patrick Mahomes, probably one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time,” Worthy said. “Just to be able to play for him, everybody talks about it. I’ve been saying it for a while.
“‘I’m going to be a Chief.’”
We’ll have to see how Worthy performs with his new team.
