The Buffalo Bills have been one of the most successful franchises in football for the past few seasons. But despite this, the Pegula family, who have primary ownership of the organization, are now reportedly looking to sell an ownership stake of the team.
According to Tim Graham of The Athletic, Terry Pagula has hired Florida-based investment bankers Allen & Company to handle the potential sale of the team. Graham detailed that sources with knowledge of the situation revealed that the family is looking to sell around a 25 percent ownership stake of the team.
The team issued a statement on the matter, saying that any potential sale would only be for a minority stake and that they are still committed to the fans in Western New York.
“The Pegula family has retained Allen & Company to explore the potential sale of a non-controlling, minority interest in the Bills,” the team’s statement read. “These discussions only involve the Bills and no other team. No investment would be possible without Terry Pegula and the Pegula family maintaining a controlling interest in the team. Their continued commitment to Western New York, the new Highmark Stadium, our fans, and the other teams in their portfolio remains unchanged.”
The statement also detailed that the Pegula family will not comment any further at the time. So it seems like this is all the information that we will receive about the matter currently.
It will likely take some time for the Pegula family to even receive this kind of an offer for a minority stake, if he does at all. But it is at least something to monitor moving forward.
Naturally, fans had plenty to say about the matter on social media.
Terry Pegula is going to sell 25% of the team, which will be more than he owes for his portion of the new stadium
Taxpayers, PSL’s & the new minority owner will pay for the entire stadium… bravo 👏 https://t.co/cbKlZ04LJ9

This is just at the investigation stage. I imagine it has to do w tax relief or getting other pockets to help w stadium costs, but either way @ByTimGraham mentions the Pegulas will retain control. https://t.co/HWxWv5ho9Z
