Many fans were wondering if there would be any references to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce on Taylor Swift’s new album The Tortured Poets Department. And when the pop star officially released her new album on Friday at midnight – followed by more songs at 2 a.m. – those fans were certainly not disappointed.
Taylor Swift clearly references Travis Kelce in two of her songs on the new album – “The Alchemy” and “So High School.”
“The Alchemy” makes several references to football and the Kansas City Chiefs’ recent Super Bowl victory, particularly in the bridge of the song.
“Shirts off, and your friends lift you up, over their heads
Beer stickin’ to the floor, cheers chanted ’cause they said
‘There was no chance trying to be the greatest in the league’
Where’s the trophy? He just comes, running over to me”
“So High School” is a little more subtle, but Swift makes a few pretty clear references like “You know how to ball, I know Aristotle,” as well as “You knew what you wanted, and, boy, you got her,” which is a callback to Kelce’s pursuit of Swift when he called her out on his New Heights podcast.
These are likely the first of many songs about their relationship.
