The Cincinnati Bengals have shown in past years that they are a force to be reckoned with in the AFC when they have a healthy team. And on Friday, Burrow sent a clear message to the team that has been reigning as not only the best team in the AFC, but also as the best team in football as of late.
The Kansas City Chiefs are back-to-back Super Bowl champions over the course of the last two years, a prospect that should worry any team looking to take the reigns from them in the AFC.
However, Burrow appears to not be all that concerned with the Chiefs. In fact, he believes that the Bengals are the perfect team to dethrone them and become the powerhouse of the conference.
“Both teams have great players,” said Burrow via The Athletic’s Paul Dehner Jr. “We are kind of built to beat them.”
On the surface, these comments from Burrow may seem a bit cocky. But what he actually seems to mean here is that he knows that the AFC goes through the Chiefs at the moment. And their goal is quite clear, to defeat the Chiefs when it matters most.
Burrow and the Bengals have shown in the past that they are capable of beating the Chiefs in big games. In two playoff games, both AFC Championship games, the Bengals have a 1-1 record against the Chiefs.
Obviously, last year didn’t go to plan after Joe Burrow went down with a season-ending injury. But if Burrow is healthy and good to go next season, watch out for the Bengals in the AFC to be one of the top competitors for the Chiefs.
