The Cleveland Browns notably had some issues at the quarterback position this past season, which held back their otherwise talented roster when it came to their postseason appearance. On Friday, they met with a quarterback prospect who could very well end up being their quarterback of the future.
The Browns saw star quarterback Deshaun Watson play in only six games this past season before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. This was followed by some inconsistent play from the likes of Dorian Thompson-Robinson, PJ Walker, and Joe Flacco at the quarterback position.
Watson could return next season and be the great quarterback he once was when he played for the Houston Texans. But that is obviously no guarantee. It seems like the Browns aren’t exactly sold on that possibility, so they have begun to seek out quarterback prospects in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Browns hosted Tennessee Volunteers product Joe Milton for a visit this week.
Milton never really reached his potential throughout his collegiate career. But he has always been known as a player with a rocket arm and a ton of potential to make every throw needed to be a true NFL starting quarterback someday.
Teams bring in players for visits all the time, so there really may not be too much to see here. But it is at least an indication that the Browns are keeping their eyes and ears open to potential options at the quarterback position.
Is this because they don’t trust what they have seen from Deshaun Watson thus far in his time with the team? Possibly, but this could also just be the Browns doing their due diligence to take a closer look at a very intriguing raw prospect in Joe Milton.
