Earlier this week, reports suggested that USC Trojans freshman Bronny James was entering the NCAA Transfer portal to pursue other opportunities. But it sounds like the son of LeBron James is also going to explore his options at the professional level, too.
According to a report from NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic, Bronny James has decided to declare for the 2024 NBA Draft as well, while retaining his eligibility to return to college basketball if he desires.
“USC freshman Bronny James is declaring for the 2024 NBA Draft. James, 19, also is entering NCAA transfer portal to maintain flexibility. The combo guard will work out for and visit NBA teams and make a draft decision based on evaluation,” Charania said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Players are permitted to enter the NBA Draft and go through the pre-draft process while retaining their college eligibility, allowing players to get feedback from NBA teams without having to sacrifice their college eligibility. It appears Bronny James is doing just that.
Obviously, this is pretty significant news, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.
Right when LeBron has a player option … oh this is well played 🫡 https://t.co/jiwUvAeRso

This doesn’t necessarily mean Bronny is entering the draft; he can still withdraw and return to school if he wants after getting feedback https://t.co/7lr5ZKTzDh

The best possible decision for Bronny.
Say whatever you want about him – he’s a good young player. Should test waters & get his feedback, keep all options open. Wasn’t the year he had hoped but had health setback & still holds NBA upside (not just bc of his last name). https://t.co/XVY3bfx8oq

If you are the Sixers, would you draft Bronny with the chance that LeBron would want to play with his son and could sign with the Sixers? https://t.co/PSaXE7Jcq1

I imagine he'll stay in college unless a team wants to try to make LeBron like them https://t.co/jKWCSVzGpW

We’ll have to see what Bronny ultimately decides to do next season.
