After the Buffalo Bills traded Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans earlier this week, new details are being revealed about the blockbuster deal.
According to NBC Sports’ Chris Simms, the Bills had given Diggs permission to seek a trade, but with one condition: Buffalo wasn’t going to deal the 2020 All-Pro wide receiver to the Kansas City Chiefs.
“The Chiefs were the only team they weren’t going to trade to,” Simms said, via DraftKings.
It’s not necessarily surprising that the Bills would be unwilling to make a deal with the Chiefs, who have been one of Buffalo’s top rivals in the AFC for the past few seasons. What’s more is that Kansas City has a glaring need at the wide receiver position and Diggs would have been an obvious fit alongside Chiefs two-time MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Instead, the Bills opted to send the 30-year-old Diggs to the Texans in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick. In Houston, the four-time Pro Bowl selection will pair with second-year quarterback C.J. Stroud and wide receivers Nico Collins and Tank Dell to form what could very well be one of the NFL’s most potent offenses — and perhaps a new rival for Buffalo in the AFC moving forward.
