The Detroit Lions made a deep run through the playoffs this past season, making it all the way to the NFC Championship game where nearly punched their ticket to the Super Bowl, holding a fourth-quarter lead over the San Francisco 49ers. The team is gearing up to make another run at winning a Super Bowl this season, but it sounds like they need help at one particular position: safety.
During a recent interview, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell made it quite clear that the team is still in need of “help” at the safety position this offseason.
“We’re still going to look for safety help,” Campbell said according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “That’s not over, either. We know we need some, there again, to bring in some competition in that room. So our eyes are there.”
Last year, the team brought in veteran safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson on a one-year deal, but he played in just three games during the regular season due to injuries and did not re-sign with the team this offseason, instead re-joining the Philadelphia Eagles.
We’ll have to see what the team has planned this offseason to bolster the safety position.
