The New York Giants are returning offensive coordinator Mike Kafka this offseason, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be the team’s primary play-caller as it sounds like head coach Brian Daboll is considering taking over those duties.
At the NFL’s annual league meetings this week, Brian Daboll admitted that play-calling is “certainly” something that he misses doing an taking over as the team’s full-time play-caller is “something I’m looking into” as the team prepares for the upcoming 2024 NFL season.
“I did it for a long time,” Daboll said according to the New York Giants team website. “There’s a lot of things that go into it. Part of the evaluation that I talked about, there are some other things that I’m looking into. I take my time and do what I think is best for the team. . . . Still working through that process. There’s quite a bit of people nowadays that do that. So, again, it’s something that I’ll look into. Whatever I feel is best for the football team, that’s the way we go.”
Obviously, this would be a significant change for the Giants if Daboll does decide to take over as the team’s primary play-caller. We’ll have to see whether or not that’s what he decides to do.
