The Detroit Lions acquired Jared Goff in a trade that sent Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams ahead of the 2021 NFL season. He has since blossomed into a legitimate star for the team and led them on a deep playoff run last season – and it sounds like they’re planning to make sure he sticks around for a while.
Jared Goff is in a contract year heading into the season, and during the NFL’s annual league meetings this week, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell made it clear that inking Goff to a new contract is a priority for the team, along with Amon-Ra St. Brown.
“Yeah, those are priorities,” Campbell said according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “Those are certainly priorities. I’m not going to get into those, but certainly there’s conversations that are being had.”
Goff has made it quite clear that he wants to remain with the Lions for the foreseeable future, and it sounds like the Lions want him as their starter, as well.
We’ll have to see when the team is able to work out a long-term deal with their star quarterback, but all signs point to Goff remaining in Detroit.
