Michigan Wolverines star quarterback J.J. McCarthy is getting a lot of buzz to potentially be the No. 2 quarterback off the board in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, but one prominent quarterback coach who has helped train some of the league’s top quarterbacks doesn’t necessarily see it.
Quincy Avery is a prominent private NFL quarterbacks coach and trainer who has worked with star quarterbacks like Deshaun Watson, C.J. Stroud, Jalen Hurts, Justin Fields, Jordan Love, Dwayne Haskins, Malik Willis, and Trey Lance.
Needless to say, Avery seems to have an eye for elite quarterback talent. But when he looks at J.J. McCarthy, he doesn’t necessarily see a player who should be the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft.
I've never rooted against a player to do well & I'm not doing that now I hope JJ lights the league on fire. I'm genuinely confused what people are seeing that I'm not. https://t.co/KM0sVMhCnH

“I’ve never rooted against a player to do well & I’m not doing that now I hope JJ lights the league on fire. I’m genuinely confused what people are seeing that I’m not,” Avery said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
McCarthy has received high praise from NFL scouts, but he wasn’t asked to throw much in Michigan’s offense.
Obviously, only time will tell whether or not McCarthy pans out in the NFL.
