The Denver Broncos are in need of a new quarterback after cutting former starting quarterback Russell Wilson earlier this month, and it sounds like the team might have a player in mind that they could pursue in the draft: Michigan Wolverines star quarterback J.J. McCarthy.
Broncos head coach Sean Payton was not in attendance for Michigan’s pro day workout last week, but he revealed to Parker Gabriel of the Denver Post that he met with J.J. McCarthy personally the day.
Payton said he spent several hours with McCarthy and “made him throw all over again.”
More Payton on the private workout with Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy: ”We sent him a bunch of information, spent four or five hours with him and made him throw all over again.
"It’s all part of the process and it can help lead to a more efficient and more effective position.”

“We went him a bunch of information, spent four or five hours with him, and made him throw all over again,” Payton said according to Gabriel. “It’s all part of the process and it can help lead to a more efficient and more effective position.”
Obviously, this news led to a lot of reactions on social media.

Obviously, the Broncos currently hold the No. 12 overall pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, which would probably be too far back to have a realistic shot at landing McCarthy, but Payton did not rule out the possibility of trading up in the draft, potentially to select McCarthy.
