Back in 2021, then Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh made some pretty iconic comments about Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day. After leading Michigan to victory over the Buckeyes for the first time in a decade, Harbaugh sent a strong message to Day when he said “Sometimes people are standing on third base, think they hit a triple, but they didn’t.” And he appeared to make reference to that comment this week.
During an interview at the NFL’s annual league meetings this week, Jim Harbaugh once again brought up these “third base” comments when discussing his new staff with the Los Angeles Chargers, which he claims was not born on third base and had to work for everything they have.
“Everybody in that building, no one was born on third base. Everyone had to work their way to first,” Harbaugh said according to Albert Breer of SI.com.

Obviously, everyone quickly saw this as an attempt to subtly troll Ryan Day yet again, and the people had a lot to say about it on social media.
So what about Sherron Moore now? Same situation as Ryan Day. Not like Day didn’t work his tail off his whole career https://t.co/Ynq51TjDIk

This still upsets Ohio State fans and a lot of them still don’t understand what it means. https://t.co/AuUwNSzCqB

I, for one, love waking up Monday morning to see Jim Harbaugh rub it in the face of poor butthurt Buckeye fans. https://t.co/FUGcVvPpIk

Says the guy whose dad coached at Michigan.
Michigan has earned all the the right to talk trash, but the 3rd base thing is so weird.
By his own logic, Sherrone Moore is taking over for a defending national champion – how is that not born on 3rd base?? https://t.co/jHqLbK25kq

Harbaugh is now the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers after leaving Michigan this offseason. But he’ll always have a winning record over Day.
