The Washington Commanders parted ways with previous starting quarterback Sam Howell earlier this month. And with the team holding the No. 2 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, it’s widely expected that the team will use that pick on a quarterback they will hope emerges as their next starting quarterback. And head coach Dan Quinn recently validated that assumption.
During a recent interview with NFL insider Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network at the Annual League Meeting on Saturday, Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn called it “fair” to expect the team to select a quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick – though he didn’t guarantee it.
“I would say it’d be fair to envision we’d be taking a quarterback,” Quinn said. “To say where it’ll be happening, I think that’s a better question for (general manager) Adam (Peters). As the next weeks unfold there’ll be a lot of discussion, and that’s why we’ve had a great trip out seeing some guys, we’ll do that some more in the weeks ahead, but I’ve enjoyed that process with Adam, and going through it. He’s somebody that is an absolute expert at this position, what it looks like, where to go, and so going through that process has been really cool.”
We’ll have to see whether or not that’s what the team decides to do at the NFL Draft next month.
