The Indianapolis Colts already have a starting quarterback with Anthony Richardson returning from injury this season, but it sounds like the team is adding some important depth behind him.
According to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Colts have decided to add a veteran quarterback to the roster to add depth and experience behind Richardson, signing reigning NFL Comeback Player of the Year Joe Flacco
“Former Browns QB and NFL Comeback Player of the Year winner Joe Flacco reached agreement with the Indianapolis Colts, per sources. It’s a one-year deal worth up to $8.7 million, including $4.5 million guaranteed. Flacco to Indy,” Schefter said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

This is obviously a pretty significant move for both Flacco and the Colts, and the NFL world had a lot to say about it on social media as a result.

makes sense you want a guy with the same traits as your starter who is the arguably the most athletic guy to ever play the position https://t.co/YxTzciNK7A

This is going to be GREAT for Richardson to learn in that QB room. https://t.co/eqOJH86aTW

Obviously, Flacco is not expected to be the team’s starter, but he will provide a sense of security for the team behind Richardson, who suffered multiple injuries last season in just a few games.
In the unfortunate circumstance that Richardson was to suffer another setback, the Colts would have a veteran backup.
