It’s not often that you see a player change their mind after agreeing to a deal with a team during the legal tampering period ahead of free agency, but that’s exactly what happened with veteran kicker Will Lutz.
On Monday, Will Lutz agreed to terms with the Jacksonville Jaguars to become the team’s new starting placekicker. But according to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, he has since changed his mind.
“First free-agent change: Kicker Will Lutz, who agreed to terms earlier in the day with Jacksonville, changed his mind and is remaining in Denver. Broncos get back their kicker, Jaguars now need one,” Schefter said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

It’s worth noting that since the agreement occurred during the legal tampering period, no contract was signed between Lutz and the Jaguars, meaning he was in no way bound to the Jaguars even after agreeing to the terms.
It’s not clear exactly why Lutz changed his mind and chose to return to Denver, but he will now be returning to the Broncos on a new contract, providing the team with an experienced veteran in a very important position.
