Last season, Mac Jones struggled as the starting quarterback for the New England Patriots last season and was ultimately benched in favor of Bailey Zappe toward the end of the season. And it sounds like he isn’t going to get a chance to earn the starting spot again.
According to a report from league insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the New England Patriots “appear open” to trading Mac Jones, and it sounds like there is interest from teams across the league.
“The #Patriots appear open to trading QB Mac Jones and teams have been calling them and doing work on the former starter, sources say. With a new coaching staff, a fresh start may make sense for all sides,” Rapoport said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Jones was selected with the No. 14 overall pick by the New England Patriots in the 2021 NFL Draft and has been the team’s starter ever since. After a strong rookie season where he was actually named to the Pro Bowl, Jones has not been able to replicate the sort of success he saw in his debut season.
We’ll have to see if a change of team helps him.
