After the Denver Broncos officially decided to part ways with Russell Wilson this week, it’s clear that the veteran quarterback will be seeking a new team this offseason. And apparently, he already has multiple suitors.
On Thursday, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers are set to meet with Russell Wilson next week about potentially signing him as a free agent, but he also revealed that Wilson is currently in talks with “at least one other team” as well.
“Wilson, 35, has an interest in joining the Steelers, but he is already talking with at least one other team after the Broncos gave him permission to seek employment elsewhere before they release him,” Dulac wrote for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette this week.
The Broncos decided to move on from Wilson this offseason after two disappointing seasons with Wilson as their starting quarterback. By cutting Wilson before the end of his contract, the team still owes him $85 million over the next two seasons. As a result, Wilson is likely to sign for a very inexpensive deal – potentially even the veteran minimum – making him a lucrative option for some teams.
Based on this report, it’s not clear exactly where Wilson will sign next, but it does appear that he could have multiple options.
