With Nikki Haley dropping out of the Republican presidential race, Donald Trump has all but locked up the Republican nomination. And it sounds like he is considering a pretty controversial choice for his running mate.

Over the past several years, Donald Trump has made it no real secret that he is against transgender women competing in women’s sports, and he seems to be doubling down on that opinion given who he is considering as his running mate.

During a recent interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News, Donald Trump revealed that he would “absolutely” consider Texas  Gov. Greg Abbott as his running mate, calling him “a spectacular man.”

“And he’s done a great job,” Trump said according to the Texas Tribune. “Yeah, certainly he would be somebody that I would very much consider.”

“So he’s on the list [of potential candidates]?” Hannity asked to confirm.

“Absolutely, he is,” Trump replied.

This is a pretty controversial choice as Abbott is notoriously against transgender athletes and transgender rights in general. Last year, he signed a bill that banned transgender athletes from participating on college sports teams aligned with their gender identities.

So if Trump is considering Abbott for the position, it’s clear that his administration will not be friendly to transgender athletes.
