The Pittsburgh Steelers did not get strong play at the quarterback position last season from starter Kenny Pickett as the team ultimately even decided to start Mason Rudolph in his place down the stretch and in the playoffs. But it doesn’t sound like the team is planning to do all that much to improve the position this offseason.
According to a report from Mike DeFabo of The Athletic, the Steelers are not pursuing Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, Kirk Cousins, or Baker Mayfield.
“The Steelers are not interested in signing Wilson in the likely event he’s released by the Denver Broncos, a source familiar with the coaching staff’s feelings on the quarterback at this stage of his career told The Athletic,” Mike DeFabo wrote for The Athletic on Monday.
“Additionally, Pittsburgh is not among the teams actively working to trade for Fields, league sources told The Athletic’s Dianna Russini. Pittsburgh is also not pursuing Kirk Cousins or Baker Mayfield in free agency, according to league sources.”
Obviously, Steelers fans who were hoping for some significant improvement at the quarterback position this offseason were not at all happy to hear this news.
If our QB room is Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph again we are such an unserious franchise https://t.co/jRCUXa8Nwd

If it really is Pickett/Rudolph this year again we might be seeing some of the ugliest crowds down on the North Shore. https://t.co/QY5eO6OTtC

Trade TJ & Minkah. They’re wasting their careers away not admitting they were WRONG to draft Mr Pickett https://t.co/QV9sNWXnyj

If this is accurate, this team is so unserious about wanting to actually win. https://t.co/t74tj434l9

Of course not, satisfied with mediocrity! A playoff win this year is all they care about.. Super Bowl? Nah that’s not something interested in https://t.co/oRpIBqzWKz

Proves me right again when I say we don’t care about winning anymore https://t.co/lGdgEQIV6s

We’ll have to see how the Steelers fare next season if they don’t make any real changes at quarterback.
