The Florida State Seminoles were left out of the College Football Playoff this season despite going undefeated and winning their Power Five conference championship game. It was a disappointing end to the season for the team, but it sounds like they already have high hopes for next season.
This week, new Florida State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei made it clear that the expectations for the team this season are “national championship or bust.”
“I understand the expectation when you’re a quarterback here at Florida State and as a player,” Uiagalelei said on College Sports Radio on Sirius XM according to On3. “But of course like you said, the expectation is high. That’s what you want. You want to be able to be able to be able to play at a place where the expectations are high and it’s ACC championship, national championship or bust. That’s the expectation Coach Norvell has and that’s the expectation that the team has and including a fan base.
“So for me, man, it’s an opportunity. It’s a blessing to be able to go out there and it’s a challenge you know, each and every day. You got to put your best foot forward so at the end of the season you can be smiling.”
DJ Uiagalelei joined Florida State via the transfer portal this offseason after beginning his career with the Clemson Tigers and playing with NC State last season. We’ll have to see how he performs as he takes over as the presumptive starter at Florida State this season.
Obviously, he’s setting some pretty high expectations for himself and his team.
