When Cincinnati Bengals superstar quarterback Joe Burrow suffered a season-ending wrist injury during the team’s Week 10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, it was a severe blow to the team’s Super Bowl hopes. But it doesn’t sound like Burrow expected a Super Bowl run even if he remained healthy.
During a recent interview with ESPN, Joe Burrow had a pretty brutal admission as he claimed that he didn’t think the team was good enough to contend for a Super Bowl title last year even if he remained healthy throughout the season.
“We need the guys that we draft to come in and be productive and take on the leadership roles that we’ve lost the last couple of years,” Burrow said. “And we need to bring in the right pieces this offseason too, whether it’s the draft or free agency.
“Like I said, the injuries were what they were last year, but we weren’t good enough in a lot of different places to make a Super Bowl run in my opinion.”
The Bengals finished just shy of a playoff spot with backup quarterback Jake Browning taking over for Burrow, but it sounds like Burrow thinks the team needs to make some changes ahead of next season.
