It’s safe to say that things did not exactly go well for Zach Wilson last season after he took over as the starting quarterback for the New York Jets following the season-ending injury to Aaron Rodgers. And as a result, it sounds like the team is now taking steps to move on from him and allow him to seek opportunities elsewhere.
During a press conference at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, New York Jets General Manager Joe Douglas revealed that the team has given Zach Wilson permission to talk to other teams around the league about a possible trade.
“Where we are exactly, we’ve given them permission to talk to other teams about a trade,” Douglas said according to Pro Football Talk. “I’m going to circle back with [Wilson’s agent] at some point, either this week or next week, just to see how those conversations are going. But other than that, there’s nothing else to report.”
Wilson was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, but he’s had a tumultuous career with the Jets so far, going just 12-21 as a starter. Throughout those three seasons with the team, Wilson has completed just 57 percent of his passes for 6,293 yards with 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions.
We’ll have to see if he can find another opportunity elsewhere.
