After he began dating global pop superstar Taylor Swift several months ago, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has suddenly become one of the most popular athletes on the planet. But while he’s enjoying the publicity boost right now, a breakup anytime in the future could have absolutely disastrous results.
Ryan Schinman is the CEO OF Mayflower Entertainment, a marketing consultancy that connects brands with entertainment partners. During a recent interview with The Cut, he had a pretty blunt warning for Kelce about what a potential breakup with Taylor Swift would do to his popularity around the world.
“I do worry about one thing, the break-up. God forbid they break up,” Schinman told The Cut. “How they break up could be devastating to his branding career. Because she is the most loved superstar and has the most rabid fans in the world, when she feels wronged, the whole world feels wronged.
John Mayer and Jake Gyllenhaal were not treated kindly by Swift fans after their respective breakups with the pop star, so if this doesn’t work out for Kelce, he’ll likely need a plan to limit the backlash.
“If it doesn’t work out Travis had better strategically plan what his messaging is,” the exec added.
