The Kansas City Chiefs emerged victorious in Super Bowl LVIII after defeating the San Francisco 49ers in overtime, but one Chiefs’ player game check will look quite a bit lighter as a result.
According to a report from Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton has been hit with a $8.238 fine for a horse collar tackle on San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.
“Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton was the only player fined for an on-field, safety-related violation in Super Bowl LVIII,” Smith wrote for Pro Football Talk on Monday. “Bolton was flagged for a horse-collar tackle on 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy during the second quarter of the game. And now the NFL has confirmed that Bolton was also fined $8,238 for the penalty.”
As Smith notes, the tackle was not particularly egregious as Bolton quickly let go and did not bring Purdy down to the field with the tackle, but it still drew a penalty flag and ultimately a pretty hefty fine as a result.
The good news for Bolton is that he also earned an extra $164,000 for winning the Super Bowl this year, so that fine will hurt a little less than normal.
