The Ohio State Buckeyes men’s basketball team is in the midst of a second consecutive very disappointing season, and as a result, it sounds like they’re making a change in leadership.
According to a report from college basketball insider Jeff Goodman, the Ohio State Buckeyes have decided to fire head coach Chris Holtmann.
“BREAKING: Ohio State has parted ways with Chris Holtmann, source told @TheFieldOf68. Holtmann went to the NCAA tourney in each of his first 4 years with the Buckeyes, and was set to go the year the tourney was canceled. Went all 3 years at Butler and went to Sweet 16. Buckeyes has taken nose-dive the last two years and Gene Smith decided to make move now,” Goodman said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

It’s a pretty shocking move considering there is still nearly a month remaining on the schedule this season, not including the conference tournament, but it’s clear that Ohio State thought it needed to make the move immediately.
The move comes after the Buckeyes lost the Wisconsin Badgers on Tuesday night, marking their 16th consecutive road loss, which tied a rather unfortunate program record.
Ohio State made the NCAA Tournament in each season throughout Chris Holtmann’s five years with the team, but they missed the tournament last year and were certainly on pace to miss the tournament field once again this year.
The Buckeyes will now be looking for a new head coach to lead the team.
