The Detroit Lions saw their run through the NFL playoffs end in the NFC Championship game with a heartbreaking loss to the San Francisco 49ers. But it sounds like the team is still quite optimistic about the future.
During a press conference this week, Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes explained that the team is making moves this offseason “to sustain what we have been building,” revealing that he believes that this is only the beginning of the team’s dominance and that the run through the postseason was not merely a Cinderella story.
“It’s only going to get better. We’re only going to get better,” Holmes said according to Pro Football Talk. “I don’t want anybody to think this was a one shot, Cinderalla, magical journey that just happened. No, it’s real. This is exactly what was supposed to happen.”
Obviously, Super Bowl runs are not easy and it’s difficult for teams to maintain dominance over multiple seasons, but Holmes sounds convinced that what the Lions have built in Detroit is sustainable over the next few years.
We’ll have to see whether or not his prediction turns out to be true and if the Lions can find their way back into title contention next year.
