Last month, Jim Harbaugh decided to leave the Michigan Wolverines to become the next head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers. But not only did he leave Michigan, but he decided to bring a few key staff members with him, including defensive coordinator Jesse Minter as well as strength and conditioning coach Ben Herbert with him to Los Angeles. And it sounds like he’s bringing at least one more coach, too.
As Aaron McMann of MLive reported on Thursday, Michigan Wolverines safeties coach and special teams coordinator Jay Harbaugh will also be following Jim Harbaugh – his father – to the Chargers.
“As expected, #Michigan STC Jay Harbaugh is following his father, Jim, to the Los Angeles Chargers. This will be his final week in Ann Arbor, sources say,” McMann wrote in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Obviously, this move doesn’t come as much of a surprise since Jay Harbaugh is Jim Harbaugh’s son. It only makes sense that he would follow his father to the NFL, as well.
Still, this means that Harbaugh has now taken three full-time members of Michigan’s coaching staff with him to the NFL as he builds his staff with the Chargers. So Michigan will certainly have some rebuilding to do.
