It’s no secret to anyone that the New England Patriots were a little dysfunctional at the quarterback position throughout the season, and it seems that dysfunction led to quite a bit of frustration from former starting quarterback Mac Jones.
According to a report from MassLive.com, Mac Jones was not informed by head coach Bill Belichick or anybody else that he had been demoted to the team’s third-string quarterback role and would be inactive for the final game of the season against the New York Jets. He found out when everyone else did – 90 minutes before the game when the team released its official inactive list.
MassLive reports that Jones was so frustrated with the lack of communication – or lack thereof – from Belichick and the rest of the team that he was actually jealous of the way the New York Jets handled the situation regarding Zach Wilson.
“On the other sideline Zach Wilson, who was drafted the same year as Jones, also lost his starting job. But the Jets had been upfront with their struggling quarterback. The Athletic reported that the Jets told Wilson they were going to trade him in the offseason. According to a source who was on the field pregame, the Patriots quarterback was so bothered by his team’s lack of communication, he told a member of the Jets’ staff that he appreciated how their organization handled Wilson’s situation,” Mark Daniels reported for MassLive.
This is obviously humorous because the Jets were heavily criticized for the way they handled Wilson throughout the season.
All in all, it’s a pretty brutal message for Jones to send to Belichick and the Patriots. With Belichick now gone and a new regime taking over, it will certainly be interesting to see what his team looks like with the team.
