The Atlanta Falcons brought in legendary six-time Super Bowl champion coach Bill Belichick for two separate interviews with the team, but the Falcons ultimately decided to hire former Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris instead. And a recent report gives some insight as to why the Falcons made that decision.
According to a report from Tony Pauline of Sports Keeda, the Atlanta Falcons decided not to offer Bill Belichick their head coaching position because he was seeking “too much power” and control over the team.
“I’m told Belichick was asking for too much power and decision-making in the Atlanta organization, much like he had in New England,” Pauline wrote for SportsKeeda on Thursday evening.
Earlier this month, Pauline wrote that “Belichick’s ability to coexist with CEO Rich McKay is a hurdle many believe must be overcome.” With news that the Falcons were going in a different direction, it seems that was not something the Falcons thought could work out.
“Obviously, that hurdle was a bit too high for any existing employee in the Falcons front office,” Pauline wrote.
With the Falcons deciding not to hire Belichick, it now looks likely that he will not be the head coach anywhere in 2024.
