During Sunday’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills, Chiefs’ wide receiver Mecole Hardman had what could have been a crucial fumble in the red zone, losing the ball out of the back of the end zone, giving it back to the Bills when the Chiefs’ had a scoring opportunity. But it sounds like Travis Kelce is taking the blame for the play over Hardman.

During his “New Heights” podcast with his brother this week, Travis Kelce made it clear that he was to blame for the fumble, not Mecole Hardman. Kelce said that his failed block on Bills defender Jordan Poyer was the reason for the fumble.

“Dude, I’m not going to lie, man, I owe Mecole a [freaking] new car or something — I owe so much to him. My block was the one that knocked the ball out,” Kelce said according to Pro Football Talk. “I’ve been [freaking] sick. I’ve apologized to him every single time I [freaking] saw him today and I’ll apologize again, my bad Mecole, man.”

Obviously, the mistake didn’t cost the Chiefs the game as they were still able to come away with a victory, but it’s clear that Kelce will want a chance to redeem himself this weekend against the Baltimore Ravens.
