As the Detroit Lions continue through their deep playoff run and prepare for an NFC Championship Game matchup with the San Francisco 49ers, it sounds like they’re getting a little help from a veteran star player.
On Monday morning, NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported that veteran three-time Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz was signing with the Detroit Lions in the midst of their playoff run.
“Three-time Pro Bowl TE Zach Ertz is signing with the #Lions, per sources. Ertz will start out on the practice squad, with plans to potentially elevate him for the NFC Championship Game. A boost for the final stretch,” Pelissero said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

This move comes after Detroit Lions backup tight end Brock Wright suffered an injury during Sunday’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is expected to miss this week’s NFC title game showdown with the San Francisco 49ers.
Zach Ertz played for the Arizona Cardinals throughout most of the 2023 season but asked for his release from the team to potentially join a Super Bowl title contender. It sounds like the Lions are the team that Ertz has selected.
