It looks like the New York Giants will be making a change at the quarterback position for this week’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.
The Giants had been rolling with quarterback rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito following a season-ending injury to Daniel Jones, even once veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor was healthy and ready to play. But it looks like DeVito’s run as the team’s starting quarterback is ending this week.
On Wednesday morning, New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll announced that Tyrod Taylor will be the team’s starting quarterback this week against the Rams as the team was benching DeVito.
This move comes as the team decided to replace DeVito with Taylor at halftime of the team’s Christmas Day game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night. Taylor performed better in the game, and it was clear that he gave the team the best chance to win going forward.
It’s a pretty big announcement from the team, and the NFL world had a lot to say about it on social media as a result.
Brian Daboll has preached from the start that he will play the players who give the #Giants the best chance to win. This promise is how he keeps them together in a lost season.
So it should come as no surprise Tyrod Taylor is starting. Here's what the tape says re: why it's TT:… pic.twitter.com/XkuYb6fb6G— Dan Schneier (@DanSchneierNFL) December 27, 2023
And now, with Tyrod Taylor starting for NY and Jacoby Brissett starting for Washington, Giants’ QB Tommy DeVito and Commanders’ QB Sam Howell both return to backup roles Sunday.

The #Giants are starting QB Tyrod Taylor on Sunday, coach Brian Daboll tells reporters, sending QB Tommy DeVito to the bench.
One of the NFL’s best stories, the rookie DeVito held his own for several games. Now, Taylor takes over. pic.twitter.com/YfoH7zMFoy— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) December 27, 2023
Now that Tyrod Taylor is back at QB for the #Giants (an explosive downfield thrower relative to what they've had who can process the deep half & throw w/ anticipation into space) I'm hopeful we'll get some more fun Jalin Hyatt tape to break down like this toe-dragging beauty: pic.twitter.com/msmbJxbsWe

Tyrod Taylor is clearly a better QB than DeVito. But what is the end game here?
Sure Tyrod gives you the best chance to win now but he will be gone in 2 Weeks.
I would have let DeVito finish out the season and work on his development even further.
Agreed with bringing Tyrod in…

Daboll said that Taylor “earned the right to start this game” after the way that he performed against the Eagles this weekend.
