The Minnesota Vikings suffered their fourth loss in their last five games on Sunday afternoon when they fell to the Detroit Lions by a score of 30-24. And it sounds like star wide receiver Justin Jefferson thinks there’s one big reason for the team’s recent struggles – the injury to veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins.
After Sunday afternoon’s loss, Justin Jefferson explained that the recent struggles show just how valuable Kirk Cousins is to the team.
“I really think it goes to show the rest of the world the type of player Kirk is. At the end of the day, this is a tough league. … It’s tough not having 8 out there, the captain that he is, the leader that he is. He’s a great player,” Jefferson said according to Minnesota Vikings beat writer Alec Lewis of The Athletic.
Justin Jefferson: "Nick is an outstanding player as well. We just need to build on that confidence we have. We just need to go on that practice field and make sure we're getting all the timing right, making sure the ball is where it needs to be."

But Jefferson also made it clear that he doesn’t mean to disparage current quarterback Nick Mullens, either.
“Nick is an outstanding player as well. We just need to build on that confidence we have. We just need to go on that practice field and make sure we’re getting all the timing right, making sure the ball is where it needs to be,” Jefferson said.
Before Cousins’ injury, the Vikings looked like potential Super Bowl contenders. Now, they’re currently on the outside of the Wild Card race.
