The University of Washington Huskies volleyball team reportedly rescinded a scholarship to a 16-year-old high school junior.
Anti-transgender activists like Riley Gaines, who once finished fifth-place in an NCAA swimming tournament, took credit for the revocation due to the athlete and her family not being honest with the school about her transgender status.
“It’s alleged that @UWVolleyball rescinded the scholarship from the male vying to play with the women. Sources say the coaches had NO idea he is a male,” Gaines wrote Sunday on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
“[She and her] family concealed his sex throughout the entering recruiting process,” Gaines wrote. “The power of public opinion & accountability,” she wrote.
Somewhat curiously, the Washington Huskies volleyball protected their posts on X.
Neither the university of the volleyball program has made an officially comment about the ongoing saga.
However, Stacey Drageset, the mother of the athlete, said in an email to Breitbart that her daughter would not be playing for the Huskies.
“Tate will not be playing volleyball for the University of Washington,” she wrote.
It’s unclear what role that Gaines and other anti-transgender noise on social media had to do with the young athlete losing her scholarship offer.
