With the Atlanta Falcons losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday night, it sets up a pretty tricky situation in the NFC South divisional race with the Falcons, Buccaneers, and the New Orleans Saints all tied at the top with a 6-7 record.
But despite the disappointing loss in a game that could have helped the Falcons pull away in the playoff race, head coach Arthur Smith knows the team is still in postseason contention.
“We didn’t get it done today, but our spirit is not broken,” Smith said according to the Atlanta Falcons official team website. “We’re still in it. It’ll be a wild adventure through the end of this season. Things change so much from week to week. . . . Down the stretch, we have to win games.”
For now, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers own the tiebreaker and would be going to the postseason if the regular season ended today. However, there are obviously still four games remaining in the regular season.
We’ll have to see what happens, but it’s shaping up to be a very interesting divisional race down the stretch between all three of the teams as they each seek to secure a spot in the playoffs.
