Steve Sarkisian Austin American-Statesman

Though his first two season with the Texas Longhorns weren’t exactly successful, Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian has led Texas to the College Football Playoff. And it’s pretty clear this was always the goal.

During a press conference on Sunday, Steve Sarkisian made it clear that the reason he came to Texas in the first place was for the chance to make College Football Playoff appearances.

“It’s why I came here,” Sarkisian said according to On3. “I was referencing this the other day that there became a point when I was at Alabama where I said, ‘Alright, I’m going to be a head coach again. I want to go somewhere where I have a legitimate chance to win championships.’ When this opportunity came? To me, this was the no-brainer because I know what this place can do.”

Sarkisian made it clear that he understands the high expectations that come along with being the head coach at a program like Texas, but he is willing to embrace them.

“I understand that there’s high expectations and a high standard here for winning championships – but that’s why I came here,” Sarkisian said. “I wasn’t naive to think, ‘Oh, I just get to be a head coach’. Ho-hum, win eight games, and everything is going to be great. You’re brought here to compete for championships year in and year out.”

We’ll have to see how the Longhorns fare in their first-ever College Football Playoff appearance.
