The New England Patriots appear set to start Bailey Zappe over Mac Jones as Zappe has reportedly taken the majority of the first-team reps in practice this week, but Zappe doesn’t seem to think that decision has been made just yet.
The Patriots have not made any official announcement about who their starting quarterback will be on Sunday, and during his press conference this week Bailey Zappe said that “nothing is set in stone,” though he certainly didn’t deny that he was set to start.
“Nothing set in stone. I’m just taking it day by day. Treating every rep I get in practice like it’s a game rep and just preparing like I do every other week,” Zappe said, via the team’s website. “It’s cliche to say it, but I try to prepare every week like I’m the starter as far as watching film, studying the plays, and getting with the guys. For me, this week is not any different.”
Given the team’s struggles on the offensive side of the ball, it would make sense for the team to try something new at the quarterback position. If that’s indeed what they decide to do, we’ll have to see how Zappe performs.
