Texas Senator Ted Cruz is a longtime Houston Astros fan, but he didn’t witness a single playoff win at any of the games he attended this postseason – but it sounds like he’s insisting that he did was not bad luck for the team.
Ted Cruz attended four Houston Astros postseason games leading up to Monday night’s ALCS Game 7 against the Texas Rangers and the Astros went 0-4 in those games. But despite pleas from fans calling for the Senator to refrain from attending Game 7, believing him to be a curse for the team, Cruz went anyway with his team insisting his presence was not bad luck.
A spokesperson for Cruz not only confirmed to The Rolling Stone that Cruz would attend Monday night’s game, but also claimed that the Senator “has a legendary record supporting the Stros.”
“No one calls them the ‘Astros.’ Go Stros. Senator Cruz has a legendary record supporting the Stros in their biggest victories, including when he cheered the Stros on to victory on June 3, 1989, which was one of the longest baseball games in history,” the spokesperson wrote. “But go ahead, write a hit piece on Senator Cruz spending time with his young daughter cheering on their hometown heroes.”
Unfortunately, that “legendary record” didn’t hold up as the Astros lost by a score of 11-4 and were eliminated from the postseason.
Whether he was a curse or not, the Astros went 0-5 with Cruz in attendance this postseason. Perhaps next year he’ll simply stay home.
